Die ersten touristischen Einrichtungen in Sitges bewerten ihre Barrierefreiheit mit der digitalen Plattform PROA
Sitges Town Council continues to move forward in its commitment to tourist accessibility, with the first spaces in the municipality now registered with the PROA platform. Promoted by the Councillor’s Office for Tourism, this digital tool uses self-assessment to improve the accessibility of private and public tourist spaces. Beaches, municipal buildings, cultural spaces, hotels, campsites, activities and commercial establishments in Sitges are currently taking part, having started the self-assessment with the new software.
The free platform helps analyse the level of accessibility of spaces in six areas: visual, aural, reduced mobility, wheelchairs, family needs and cognitive accessibility. Once tourist services complete their self-assessment, technical staff from the councillor’s office who are accredited as accessibility validators will carry out the validation process. Each establishment will then get a detailed report with specific recommendations to improve their access conditions, thus favouring a more inclusive and competitive environment for all visitors.
The Councillor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, noted “we’re pleased to see how the first tourist spaces in Sitges now form part of the PROA system. We invite all tourist establishments and services, such as restaurants, accommodation, shops and businesses to join in and register with the platform. Here at the Councillor’s Office we offer personalised support for all the establishments wishing to join in”. He added that “improving accessibility means backing quality tourism which is responsible and open to all”.
The PROA system is part of the roll-out of the “Tourism for All” strategy by the Government of Catalonia, which is supported by the Catalan Tourism Agency and Barcelona Provincial Council and positions Sitges as a leading destination in accessibility and social commitment. In the next stages of the project, and linked to the creation of the new tourism website planned for 2026, all companies that have appraised the adaptation of their spaces through PROA will be included in the new online tourist accessibility guide.
Tourism services wishing to be part of PROA and with any doubts or queries relating to the platform can contact the Councillor’s Office for Tourism by mail at professionalsturisme@sitges.cat.
