The Department of Culture organizes 'Imprescindibles' ('Essentials'), a series of open-air concerts by artists from Sitges
Sitges will be programming live music this summer as part of a new initiative called 'Imprescindibles' (‘Essentials’), a series of open-air concerts featuring local artists promoted by the Sitges Town Hall, which will be held on July 25th and 26th and August 1st and 8th. Over four days, eight different free concerts will be scheduled featuring Pacosan, La Orden, the Fredrik Carlquist Quartet, Tebar Nomar, Sr. Ramírez, Pancho, Sitges Rock Café Band and Rumbalmins. All concerts will take place from 8:00 to 10:00 pm on the Hort de Can Falç, and are intended to thank and return the warmth to the local musicians who have cheered up and accompanied everyone during the lockdown.
The Cultural sector is one of the hardest hit by the Coronavirus pandemic and the Sitges Town Council would like to contribute to reactivating this area over the next few months. The councilor for Culture, Xavier Salmerón, explains that “this is a new endeavor that joins other initiatives that we are announcing to culturally reactivate post-pandemic Sitges”. The councilor adds that “we are especially excited to announce this concert series which is supported by a large number of musicians from Sitges”. The concert series will begin on Saturday July 25th with performances by Pacosan and La Orden. Pacosan, founded in 2012 by David Paco, Perico Massana and Sergi Marcet, will present 'Delirium' (Hidden Track, 2019) where their characteristic Electronic Psych Rock sound becomes even rawer and analogue synthesizers gain weight. On the other hand, the rap trio LA ORDEN, made up of Ramzéh (Chore Cusiné), El Role (Isaac Gonzalez) and Budka (David Gonzalez, will unleash their hard-hitting Hip Hop with a preview of songs from their third album and classics from their first two works, 'Después de tanto' and 'Second Round'.
On Sunday July 26th, the turn will be for the Fredrik Carlquist Quartet and Tebar Nomar. Frederik Carlquist is a Swedish saxophonist and clarinetist, residing in Sitges since 2001. Accompanied by Andreu Zaragoza (guitar), Marc Cuevas (double bass) and Carlos Falanga (drums), the Fredrik Carlquist Quartet will present material from their latest work 'O-astronave', a tribute to "The Brazilian Song Book" mixed with jazz standards from Carlquist's catalogue of albums.
Tebar Nomar, the nomadic singer-songwriter and musician of universal origin, will be making a stop in Sitges, also called the Blanca Subur, on his infinite journey to seduce sensitive souls to the rhythm of timeless songs sung with the joy of a pure, cheerful and free soul.
The programming will continue on Saturday, August 1st, with Sr. Ramirez and Pancho. Sr. Ramírez is the artistic project led by the singer and composer, Sergi Ramírez, who will present 'Que nos bailen el quitao', a musical allegory to an entire career, with his own songs that evoke the essence of the most emblematic pop-rock. Onstage the Sitgetan musician will be accompanied by the rest of the band: Albert Alcázar (on guitar), Ricardo Rabella (on guitar), Josep Faraboni (on bass) and Marc Llorià (on drums).
Pancho, the new project by the boy from San Mus, Justo Conde, drinks from the purest roots of American folk rock. Accompanied by Francisco Estrada and Josep Faraboni (from Justo y Los Pecadores), Xavi Cardona (from the Vilanova band Biscuit), and Hug Salvat (from the Jokermen Dylan tribute band), his songs that are a blend of folk and rock draw perfect sound landscapes to accompany the slow but intense rhythms of a summer afternoon in the August heat.
The series will end on Saturday August 8th with the Sitges Rock Café Band and Rumbalmins. The Sitges Rock Café Band, led by the prolific singer and musician from Sitges, Mingo Bampton, together with Andreas Brauniger (electric guitar), Manu Txebe (on drums) and Marc Galindo (on bass and guitar) mixes rock, blues and folk with style and attitude and with a touch that’s so personal that they make each of their concerts a unique experience.
The group Rumbalmins, made up of young musicians from the region of Garraf, have become classics for summer evenings in Cala Balmins. They perform covers of all-time rumba songs with live performances that always end up in a huge party where no one can stop dancing and singing.
