'Madama Butterfly' and 'Cavalleria Rusticana' will star the summer opera at the Maricel Palace

The Golden Hall will host eight functions of the two works

Sitgestiu - the summer program of music, art and experiences of Sitges Museums and the Department of Culture - will present eight recitals of two operas at the Gold Hall of Palau de Maricel: Madama Butterfly and Cavalleria Rusticana. The main course of the program, which presents various activities (concerts, heritage routes, workshops ...) between July 11 and September 1. Both operas will be represented by the Petita Companyia Lírica de Barcelona.

 

Cavalleria Rusticana is premiered in Sitgestiu programming with four functions, Sundays July 14 and 21, August 4 and September 1. Set in a Sicilian town of the late nineteenth century, it tells a story of love, jealousy, treason, revenge and death. Opera verista par excellence, the work of Pietro Mascagni, its popularity has remained to this day, largely because some of its fragments, such as the popular intermezzo, have been incorporated into the soundtracks of different films.

 

Madama Butterfly returns to the Golden Hall after the positive experience of last year. One of the masterpieces of Giacomo Puccini set in Nagasaki. explains the tragic history of geisha Cio-Cio San, better known as Madama Butterfly, which is seduced by Pinkerton,  one   official   in   the   US   Navy, and she marries   him   with  the hope that the marriage will last  forever  . As a result   of the   clash of cultures, Cio-Cio San only has the option of death to save her honor- Madama Butterfly will have four functions: Sundays July 28 and August 11, 18 and 25.
