The “Mediterranean Guitar Festival 2023” returns in Sitges with 32 concerts and 70 musicians
This year's edition of the Mediterranean Guitar Festival has arrived at the hermitage of Sant Sebastià, with 31 concerts scheduled from April 21 to October 27. The festival will bring together international and Catalan guitarists of recognized trajectory to bring music to the hermitage of San Sebastián. The performances are on Fridays and Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. with a capacity of 120 people. As a novelty this year, the concerts will end with a glass of malvasia for all attendees.
The program starts this Friday, April 21, at 9:00 p.m. in the Hermitage of San Sebastián, with a concert by flamenco guitarist Javier Gavara, who will perform his Tribute to Paco de Lucía.
The Casino Prado hosts the interpretation of the famous Aranjuez Concert, on July 9. The concert will be attended by the Orquesta del Maresme, with its director Jordi Montoliu and as soloist the American guitarist Celil Refik Kaya. The Casino Prado Suburense will also host a performance by the Barcelona Guitar Orchestra on August 12, which will perform a repertoire full of works by Spanish composers.
Among the concerts scheduled at the hermitage of San Sebastián, the performance on August 11 by the Camerata Venezia, the concert on July 28 by the prestigious Catalan guitarist Guillem Pérez-Quer, and the performance on July 21 by Ekaterina Zaytseva, guitarist Russian resident in Barcelona and considered by critics as one of the best European guitarists today. There will also be several performances by flamenco guitarist Javier Gavara who will perform his spectacular Tribute to Paco de Lucía in the hermitage of San Sebastián. Musicians such as Sergi Vicente, the Saltors brothers, the theorbist Ferran Pisà, the composer Maria Camahort, and the German Nora Buschmann, among others, will also perform their repertoire in this emblematic space until October.
This year the Mediterranean Guitar Festival and the LGTBIQ+ Colors Sitges Link association have signed an agreement, through which members will enjoy discounts to attend the concerts of the event.
Mediterranean Guitar Festival 2023 on the Catalan coast
The Mediterranean Guitar Festival was born in 2016 with the aim of bringing music to the populations of the Catalan coast through different guitar players.
The municipalities of Catalonia that are currently part of the festival are Castelló d'Empúries, L'Estartit, Llançà, El port de la Selva (on the Costa Brava); Sitges, Lloret de Mar and Calella (on the Barcelona Coast), and Calafell and Coma-ruga (on the Costa Daurada).
This year there will be a total of 140 concerts by 50 different formations and by the hand of great local and international performers, in which there will be different styles such as classical guitar, flamenco, Spanish guitar, romantic guitar, cello recital based on the figure of Bach, several quartets and also some concerts with chamber formations and orchestras.
