The European environmental conferences Let's clean up Europe return to Sitges

The first week of May brings together activities aimed at institutes and also at the general public.

The Let's Clean Up Europe European environmental awareness project returns to Sitges on May 3, 4 and 6, with activities scheduled for institutes and for the general public. The 4th ESO students of the IES Joan Ramon Benaprès will star in the first day of cleaning on Wednesday, May 3, in the Pruelles area. The following day, May 4th, it will be the turn of the high school students of the Escola Pia de Sitges, who will clean the Can Robert park.

The cleaning activity on May 4 requires canceling the mobile mini-disposal service for that day from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. located in Plaza de Catalunya, nor in the afternoon at the usual points on Carrer de Lluís Companys with Joan Fuster (to los Molinos), Devesa street (Plans de Aiguadolç) and Joan Maragall street with Onze de Setembre (Escorxador).

The weekend will host the activity for all citizens: the cleaning of the Santa Bárbara Forest, on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To participate in this activity, however, it is necessary to register in advance by emailing educacioambientalsitges@gmail.com. The organization will provide the material to carry out the activities, but it is recommended to wear a hat, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes and clothing.

As part of this European initiative, el Centre d'Estudis del Mar, the Barcelona Provincial Council's environmental education facility, has also scheduled two cleaning actions in Sitges for Sunday, May 7, to raise awareness about the amount of waste that is thrown into the beaches and the sea and its impact on the marine environment. These activities have the collaboration of the Sitges Town Hall, the Jardins de Terramar Festival and the Catalan Federation of Underwater Activities (FECDAS).

One of the actions will take place on the beaches of La Barra, Terramar, Les Anquines and Cellerot, where the participating people will clean the sand of plastic and other small waste, such as packaging, paper and cigarette butts. The organization will provide gloves and bags for collection. The activity, open to everyone, will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. To participate, prior registration is required by form.

At the same time, the action to clean the seabed of the coastal section located in front of the Centre d'Estudis del Mar will be carried out. To participate, it is necessary to have the minimum qualification of a 1-star diver or equivalent (Open Water Diver) and have insurance for underwater activities. The organization will provide immersion bottles, weights and bags to collect the waste. The activity does not include the rest of the material, such as a neoprene suit, underwater mask, fins or regulators, among others. People interested in participating in this action must formalize registration.
