The Department of Tourism works to consolidate Sitges as a wedding destination

Sitges annually welcomes more than 400 weddings, 25% of which are between foreign couples. The economic impact generated by these celebrations means 8.5 million euros in revenue for Sitges’ companies.

The Department of Tourism works to position Sitges as the best international wedding destination. This new strategy to promote this market segment responds to the increase in couples from all over the world who choose Sitges to celebrate their nuptials. It is estimated that yearly, the town welcomes an approximate volume of more than 400 weddings, of which 25% are between foreign couples, according to data from the valuation study of the wedding segment of the town of Sitges performed by DNA, Consultora de Turismo y Ocio (DNA, Tourism and Leisure Consultant). These types of weddings featuring foreign couples generate longer stays and a greater economic impact. But beyond generating a significant economic effect, international wedding tourism also allows for deseasonalization and diversification. In light of this reality, the Department has evaluated the town’s potential as a destination for international weddings and the results were presented to professionals in this field as a part of the conference that took place this Thursday at the Dolce Sitges hotel.

The economic impact generated by these celebrations means 8.5 million euros in revenue for Sitges’ companies. This figure is even higher if the indirect impact is taken into account because if the stay is long, expenses for accommodation, purchases and catering must be added in.

The Department wants to promote this sector with a great future and plans to publish a new subsection in its own section on Sitges’ official tourism website www.sitgesanytime.com

Under the Sitges Weddings brand, the Department of Tourism brings together all the activities of this tourism segment that, at the same time, wants to encourage business cooperation.
