Sitges opens the Film Festival with the town dedicated to the Fantastic genre

Ticket sales have experienced growth compared to the previous edition

Today, Sitges launches the 56th edition of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia with a notable increase in ticket sales and a town once again devoted to the Fantastic film genre. This is one of the key events for Sitges and one of those that gives it the greatest projection and economic impact. In 2019, it was above 8 million euros and this 2023, 10,000 more tickets have already been sold than last year.

The streets are decorated to welcome the festival and many establishments have decorated their windows for the occasion. The parallel cultural and recreational activities are aimed at different audiences through outdoor shorts sessions or a gymkhana for children, among other initiatives.

The commitment to the audiovisual sector in Sitges is firm and the City Council and the Festival promote the film industry. In this line of work, a new meeting for professionals in the sector will be promoted, such as the Producers Meet Producers program, where senior producers are brought into contact with novices.

The Mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell Abella; the Councilor for Education, Albert Oliver; and the director of the Festival today welcomed 990 boys and girls in the session dedicated to schools within this first opening day.

This year the contest honors the 60th anniversary of 'Els ocells' with a high-flying edition.

From October 5 to 15, you can enjoy 369 cinematographic works, divided between the official sections, the Brigadoon and Sitges Family sections, which can be seen in 7 different rooms. In the official sections there are a total of 182 feature films and 67 short films.
