Sitges will celebrate the 48h Open House Architecture Festival
Sitges returns for the third consecutive year to the 48h Open House Architecture Festival with different spaces and itineraries to spread the town's historical heritage and give visibility to the figure of architects.
In the town you can see buildings, public and private, that arose from the period of economic splendor that the town experienced during the second half of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th, thanks to the Americans. Also figures such as the artist Santiago Rusiñol or the American Charles Deering, contributed to Sitges becoming an open and cosmopolitan town, and where the nineteenth-century garden city of Terramar was also planned. The Old Market is a building from the end of the 19th century that innovated due to the configuration of the open space that the iron structure allowed.
The range of itineraries offers two options. On the one hand, the itinerary through the exteriors of the Maricel complex will allow you to see the different spaces that are now occupied by the Museum, the Palace, the Historical Archive and the Santiago Rusiñol Library. On the other hand, you can also do the Old Sitges Itinerary; a tour of buildings which, modified, extended, renovated and with a change of use, can be visited and which give an idea of what Sitges was like a thousand years ago.
