Sitges will commemorate Universal Children's Day with a party on November 17 starting at 5:30 p.m., in Plaza Catalunya del Poble Sec. The Sitges City Council joins the celebration to vindicate the rights of children in this way. The Councilor for Children and Youth, David Martínez, highlights that “we celebrate Universal Children's Day in order to promote the well-being and quality of life of children. We want to value the rights of the little ones around the world, which are civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. From the City Council we consider it important to ensure these rights and allocate resources to children because it means investing in the future of the town with the aim of moving towards a more just society."
The members of the XXI Children's Council and the mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, will be in charge of the presentation and opening of the party, which will have Plaça Catalunya as the main stage for most of the proposals. The other space, which will schedule a storytelling session, will be the large room of the Socio-Educational Intervention Service (SIS).
The program will include cultural, sports and recreational activities such as Counting Time, painting and recycling workshops, face painting, instrument tasting, a sports exhibition and a snack.
This year this celebration is coordinated by the Department of Children and Youth and has the collaboration of the departments of Social Rights, Sports, Education, Health along with Image and Public Roads. The programming of activities also has the collaboration of the Santiago Rusiñol and Josep Roig i Raventós Libraries, the Museums of Sitges, the Municipal School of Music, the Sitges Municipal Market and Caprabo. The design of the 2023 poster has been carried out by the 2nd year artistic baccalaureate students of the Joan Ramon Benaprès Institute.
The Children's Festival in Sitges is part of the celebration of Universal Children's Day, which the UN set on November 20, to commemorate the approval of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. , in 1989.

*Painting workshop- Sitges Museums: creation of a pictorial work with paints, sand, soil, brushes or spatulas. Boys and girls will be able to express their creativity on a canvas, after seeing some of the paintings by the painter and engraver, Miquel Villà.
*Recycling workshop: we escape from plastics. Following the philosophy and popularity of “escape rooms”, an activity will be developed based on the idea of escaping from a room (or space) in a certain time, after passing a series of tests that will be contained in a box (a suitcase). or chest). The activity seeks to raise awareness about plastic pollution (particularly disposable plastics with short useful lives) with the degradation of ecological systems, at the same time affecting the entire food chain, including humans.
