The Cau Ferrat and Maricel museums, declared a site of national interest
It is now official: the Cau Ferrat and Maricel museums are sites of national interest. The Government of Catalonia has ratified this and has followed on from a declaration made in March 2018 by the Junta de Museus de Catalunya (Board of Museums for Catalonia) and requested by Sitges Heritage Consortium in May 2017.
The mayor of Sitges, Miquel Forn, has been congratulated for this official recognition, “the cultural capital of Sitges makes it especially clear. This news is timely and well-deserved, in the centenary year for the Maricel complex”. The councillor for Culture, Traditions and Festivals, Rosa Tubau, also states that this distinction confirms the Cau Ferrat and Maricel museums “as architectural gems and diffusers of Catalan art”.
List of the ten museums of national interest in Catalonia
The Cau Ferrat and Maricel museums are the latest to be included on the list of eight, made up of: the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Picasso Museum, the Joan Miró Foundation, the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, the Barcelona Maritime Museum, the Vic Episcopal Museum, the Montserrat Museum and the Diocesan and Comarcal Lleida Museum.
