Congresses and Conventions? In Sitges, of Course
If you happen to be in charge of organizing (or proposing or approving) congresses, conventions, meetings, promotional events or incentive trips... this may be of interest to you. Because added to Sitges' natural charm (Garraf Park on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, with Modernisme in between), is its proximity to Barcelona and its airport. If to this combination we also add the possibility of exploring the whole town on foot and enjoying a unique atmosphere and its own differential services and infrastructures -in terms of culture, gastronomy and hotels- the choice is easy or even extremely easy ;)
Okay, let's get down to details. The first thing you need to know is that there is an organization that can help you at all times and during all stages, including weighing up the idea. We’re talking about the Sitges Convention Bureau, a Sitges Town Council program that, with the participation of companies related to the business tourism segment, aims to promote Sitges precisely as a destination for holding congresses, conventions and incentive trips.
The numbers are also a good reason to explain why Sitges is, along with Barcelona, the preferred destination for business meetings: more than 3,000 hotel rooms in 4 and 5-star hotels, an auditorium with a seating capacity for 1,400 people, two convention centers with a seating capacity for 500 and 900 participants, respectively, and more than 100 meeting rooms and spaces for weddings and banquets.
One of these emblematic spaces for organizing events is the Meliá Sitges, the first auditorium in Catalonia, with a capacity for 1,395 people and the current headquarters of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. It's crystal clear for its director, Sergio Uriol: "What we sell, what works and attracts companies, is the destination; because Sitges is a brand, and a prestigious brand that in itself motivates people to organize congresses, conventions and all sorts of incentive trips here". In addition, Sergio insists, "another element that sets us apart from other towns is that we have the capacity and experience to host all kinds of events, including international events that involve a high degree of participation". An example of this type of event is the International Mobility Congress 2022, which will take place in Sitges, precisely at the Meliá Hotel, on October 25th and 26th of this year.
In any event, whatever kind of meeting it is, the key element in Sitges "is that it allows for a perfect combination of work and leisure; you know that you're going to have a great time here". In other words: here in Sitges, mixing work and pleasure really does function. And it functions very well ;)
