Das Internationale Patchwork-Festival feiert seine 21. Ausgabe vom 19. bis 22. März
A new edition of the International Patchwork Festival is being held in Sitges from 19 to 22 March, the aim being to reach a broader number of people. Organised by the Spanish Patchwork Association in collaboration with Sitges Town Council, the event has become firmly established as the largest collective display of textile art in Spain and one of the leading events in this sector on an international level.
The festival will again make Sitges the global epicentre for patchwork, with a trade fair featuring over 100 exhibitors set up in Passeig de la Ribera. This will be the centre of the event, with a total of three marquees and an overall space of more than 2,000 square metres, where companies and professionals from this sector will be presenting the latest developments and specialised materials.
Textile art creations will also be on display around six exhibition spaces: the Miramar- Centre Cultural, the Mercat Vell, the Escorxador – Centre d’Arts Vives, the Estudi Vidal, the Espai Cultural Pere Stämpfli and, new this year, the Espai Joan Tarrida. Notable names at this edition include Andrea Brokenshire, Rachel B. Hayes, Jongkyeong Lee with the Korea Contemporary Quilt Group and Naomi Lida, who will be presenting a collection of old English quilts. We can also see works by Isabel Muñoz and Marta Morán with their students.
According to a study by the Councillor’s Office for Tourism in 2025, the patchwork festival generates a strong economic impact for the town, mainly in terms of restaurants, food, transport and fashion. Local visitors accounted for the most spending last year, while on an international level the highest level of spending came from the USA. People between 45 and 54 spend the most money on this art.
The Councillor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, notes that “the International Patchwork Festival is a key event for Sitges, contributing decisively to the decentralisation of tourism and the diversification of our cultural options. In addition, the fair attracts an increasing number of international visitors, which positions Sitges as a leading cultural and creative destination”.
For her part, the organiser of the International Patchwork Festival, Imma Farreró, emphasises the consolidation of the event and notes that “the festival has become one of the most important in Europe in the world of patchwork, with a broad range of exhibitors and thousands of visitors every year”. Farreró also notes how important it is that “95% of companies at the fair are headed by women, giving the festival added value and highlighting the role of women’s talent in this creative sector”.
Beside the trade fair, the festival stands out for its wide range of parallel activities. We can find monographic courses with national and international specialists, workshops and a competition-exhibition that this year comes with the title “The beauty of chaos” and presents a selection of contemporary works by artists from all over.
