Sitges Pride celebrates 15 years as an international beacon of diversity
The eagerly awaited programme for Sitges Pride 2026 was presented this Tuesday at Hotel Calipolis. This year, the event is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary as one of the leading LGBTIQ+ events in the Mediterranean region. From 10 to 14 June, a lineup of events combining festive, community and cultural activities for all audiences will once again fill the town with music, culture, advocacy and diversity.
Organised by AFGAL, with the support of City Council and other local associations, Sitges Pride will once again turn Passeig de la Ribera into the heart of the celebration with Pride Village, an open space overlooking the sea that will host musical performances, drag shows, DJ sessions and activities for residents and visitors alike.
The highlights of this edition will include the return of the traditional High Heel Race, one of the most iconic and engaging events at Pride, as well as the first edition of the Pet Pawrade, a public event that will expand the range of activities geared towards families.
Once again, one of the culminating events will be the Sitges Pride Parade. Taking place on Sunday 14 June along the Passeig Marítim, it will feature floats, artists, associations and thousands of participants in an open, combative, colourful celebration that has become one of the event’s most iconic images.
Beyond the activities for Sitges Pride, Sitges will continue marking Pride Month throughout June with a wide range of initiatives led by City Council and local associations. One of the highlights will be the official ceremony on 26 June marking International LGBTI+ Pride Day (even though the day itself is 28 June). The event will include an exhibition and talk on LGBTI+ historical memory, the reading of the manifesto and a sardana dance in the Plaça de la Indústria.
“The event has a major international profile and contributes to the town’s vibrancy,” says Xavier Ripoll, the city councillor for tourism. “Sitges Pride helps promote Sitges around the world and reinforces our commitment to inclusion, respect and harmony.”
A social and cultural programme to celebrate Pride as a community event
This year, the event is emphasising its focus on culture, education and advocacy with a wide-ranging programme organised by the Associació de Festes Gais i Lesbianes (Gay and Lesbian Festival Association, or AFGAL) and Colors Sitges Link.
The events will get underway on Wednesday 10 June with the Pride kick-off at Espai Joan Tarrida, a round-table discussion on historical memory and the evolution of LGBTIQ+ rights over time, and an open community gathering. Thursday’s programme will explore culture and knowledge, with activities on the topics of language, poetry and sexual health. Friday will focus on raising awareness of different lived realities within the community, addressing topics such as LGBTIQ+ ageing, youth experiences, human rights and cultural diversity. Family and intergenerational activities will take centre stage on Saturday, with a Pride Sardana, inclusive children’s workshops, cultural activities, young people’s personal stories, and artistic creations exploring gender expression and identity. The programme will come to a close on Sunday with a queer poetry gathering, community drinks, discussion forums and a closing ceremony.
You can find more information on each activity, as well as the full programme for this edition, on the official Sitges Pride and Sitges Tourism channels.
