Archaeological visits at Puig de Sitges
The tours, led by archaeologist Joan García Targa, offer an immersion into the ancient history of Sitges and allow for a better understanding of what the Puig was like in Iberian and Roman times. This initiative, organized since 2017, has become a well-established opportunity to share the town’s historical and archaeological heritage and to highlight the value of heritage as a tool for knowledge and cultural cohesion.
The tour will begin at 5 pm in the Plaça de l'Ajuntament and will last approximately two hours. Along the route, participants will be able to learn first-hand about the main sites in the old town where archaeological excavations have taken place. Some of the most relevant pieces uncovered during more than three decades of research at Puig de Sitges will also be displayed, the result of archaeological monitoring of both public and private construction works. Among the most noteworthy elements are the fragment of the medieval wall on Major Street and the display cases with archaeological remains located in the lobby of the Town Hall.
