Open Day Exhibition: “Absences and Presences. The Artists of Charles Deering in the Banc Sabadell Art Collection”
Industrialist and collector Charles Deering built Maricel de Terra (now the Palau de Maricel) to display his valuable collection of Hispanic art, featuring outstanding works of medieval Catalan art and masterpieces by artists such as El Greco, Zurbarán, and Goya. In Sitges, he also assembled an important collection of contemporary art, now dispersed around the world.
This exhibition seeks to symbolically recover these absent works through pieces from the Banc Sabadell Art Collection. Artists such as Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Anglada-Camarasa, Joaquim Sunyer, Darío de Regoyos, Zuloaga, Joaquim Mir, and Josep Maria Sert return to the spaces of Maricel de Mar (now the Maricel Museum), in dialogue with historical photographs that reveal the original splendour of the complex and the attraction that Catalan art held for Deering.
