Family workshop, Zoòtrop
Sitges museums is involved again for another year with the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. Sitges museums have also prepared a children's workshop on the fantasy genre and, specifically, on the visual magic of optical effects. Children will be able to create their own zoetrope based on an animation inspired by the Festival logo, the iconic image of the giant gorilla King Kong perched on top of the La Punta bell tower.
The zoetrope is a toy invented in 1834 by the English mathematician William George Horner that reproduces the illusion of movement. The piece is made up of a circular drum and a strip with images that breaks down a cyclical movement. By turning the drum, if you look through one of the slots, you get the illusion of movement.
