Sitges Tourism

Sitges takes stock of the year's tourism and promotes initiatives to consolidate a more sustainable, smarter and more competitive model

The Tourism of Sitges Advisory Council is holding the first of its annual meetings to take stock of the main activities in the first half of the year and share with the sector the lines of work for the upcoming months.

The Tourism Department of Sitges City Council has presented the Tourism Advisory Council with a summary of the initiatives from the first half of 2026 and the main projects slated for the second half. During the session, the good pace of the projects being implemented was discussed, with initiatives that enhance promotion of the destination, digitalisation, sustainability and tourist competitiveness.

In terms of overall promotion, in the first six months of the year, five press trips were organised with 41 international journalists, along with two commercial initiatives, two familiarisation trips with 33 professionals from travel agencies to share the destination with them and a range of presentations at universities and sectoral gatherings. These initiatives have made it possible to continue positioning Sitges in strategic markets, like the United Kingdom and Germany, and to boost its international presence.

New tools have also been strengthened, like the PROA Tourism Accessibility Guide, a digital tool that allows companies and services in the tourist sector to self-assess their accessibility level in order to improve it; updates of promotional materials; and the approval of a line of grants aimed at associations in the restaurant and hospitality sector to develop promotional projects.

The Sitges Convention Bureau, the Tourism Council’s programme focused on congress and meetings tourism, has continued to promote Sitges as a business destination in the leading international markets, with five networking events with 295 professionals, eight trade fairs and working sessions with more than 300 contacts and four familiarisation and inspection trips, among other initiatives.

Another prominent development is the evolution of Tourism's digital channels and networks. Instagram continues to become the destination’s leading international showcase, with a 30% increase in followers and high interaction rates. TikTok grew 35% and LinkedIn 43%, also boosting communication with the professional sector. The campaign ‘Sitges, a destination that never sleeps’ was recognised with a 2026 Publifestival Award for best efficiency on the social media.

Positive ratings by visitors

The Tourism Offices served more than 21,000 people in the first half of the year, with an overall rating of 9.7 out of 10. The analysis of the profile of visitors confirms the importance of the international market and the increasing interest in culture, beaches, events and food, information that will help better guide future promotional initiatives.

The TSPD in its closure phase

The implementation status of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination (TSPD), financed with EU Next Generation Funds, was also presented at the meeting. City Council finished the plan with a very high degree of implementation and with nine projects led by Tourism.

Strategic projects will be presented in the second half of the year, such as the Intelligence System, the new tourist promotion web portals and the initiatives linked to accessibility, sustainability and business competitiveness.

The Tourism Councillor, Dani Martínez Berdala, stated that ‘this first half of the year confirms that Sitges’s tourism strategy is heading in the right direction, with projects that reinforce the destination’s international promotion, sustainability and competitiveness’. He added that, ‘we are now embarking on a second half with new initiatives that will enable us to continue innovating and working hand-in-hand with the sector to consolidate a quality tourism model’.

A second half of 2026 with new projects

The Council also learned about the new sustainable certification models promoted by the Barcelona Provincial Council. The new label, Destinació Barcelona Sostenible is a continuation of the work done on sustainability thus far under the Biosphere certification, reinforcing the public administrations’ leadership in this field.

The calendar of initiatives planned for the upcoming months includes new international promotion initiatives, projects associated with meeting tourism, the roll-out of Next Generation projects and the consolidation of an increasingly smart, sustainable and quality-oriented destination model.
