The Town Council takes another step in its commitment to accessible tourism through the PROA software. The free tool, open to everybody, will help promote the accessibility of tourist resources in the municipality. The software is expected to be available in the coming months so that companies and services in the tourist sector can start to self-assess the universal accessibility of their establishments. They can do so in categories such as visual, aural, mobility, special family needs and cognitive. The system offers specific recommendations on improvements and generates practical reports for internal management and promotion alike.

The goal is to have, in the medium term, a guide to accessible tourist resources in the municipality. The Councillor for Tourism and Social Rights, Citizens and Equality, Xavier Ripoll, stresses that “the implementation of the PROA system allows us to get a more accurate understanding of the reality of the municipality in terms of accessibility and take steps to improve it”. The Councillor added that “we invite all tourism companies to join the project, as this tool not only helps improve the experience of visitors with functional diversity but also strengthens the quality and overall competitiveness of our destination”.

The City Council will offer support and ongoing assistance to all tourism companies in the municipality that wish to join the project. These companies will get specific training on accessibility in September, as well as detailed information on how the software works.

The project is part of the roll-out of the “Tourism for All” programme by the Catalan Tourism Agency and Barcelona Provincial Council, in line with the Sitges Strategic Plan on Tourist Accessibility, drafted in 2024. The new software will become an open, practical and transformational tool, making Sitges a pioneering destination in accessible tourism and a leader in social commitment and quality.
