The Councillor’s Office for Tourism promotes Sitges to consolidate it as a year-round destination

Initiatives are being implemented in different formats at a national and international level as part of the strategy to promote tourism

The Councillor’s Office for Tourism at Sitges Town Council is strengthening its strategy to consolidate the town’s tourism positioning at a national and international level. A series of promotional actions are being carried out in the spring to position Sitges as a versatile and high quality tourist destination for both holidaymakers and congress and events tourism (MICE).

Sitges was present at the All About People event in the Costa Brava, an international forum specialising in MICE tourism, where the town was able to promote itself as a destination before British agencies. The TVE programme Aquí La Tierra has also been recorded and will broadcast content on the local landscape, culture and gastronomy; and the town took part too in the Spain Convention Bureau in Munich, presenting MICE options in Sitges to the German market. The town also attended the Gestor de DTI meeting, within the context of the Smart Tourism Destinations Network.

Promotional activities continue in May. The Councillor’s Office is organising an event in collaboration with the Catalan Tourism Agency on Wednesday 14, offering a fact-finding mission for travel agents and the media from Moldavia and Ukraine, with the new flight connecting Chisinau and Barcelona.

The town will also be participating in the Workshop M&I MICE & Luxury Forum from 16 to 19 May, with professionals from the European and North American market; and welcoming a delegation of Norwegian tourism businesspeople on 21 May, introducing them to the tourism management model, along with local cultural heritage and architecture. There is also a benchmarking event at the end of the month, on 27 May, in collaboration with the Catalan Tourism Agency and Barcelona Provincial Council. The meeting is a chance to share good practices in sustainable, cultural and food and wine tourism with other businesspeople and tourist municipalities.

Going into June, other actions include the ongoing promotion of Sitges with a special focus on food and wine, making the most of Catalonia being announced as the World Region of Gastronomy 2025. Other planned actions include fact-finding trips for specialised international travel agents and participation in the Tasty Catalunya event, based around gastronomy.
