Sitges supports diversity and LGTBI+ memory with Pride Month

City Council and town organisations are promoting an extensive programme throughout the month of June. The commemoration will culminate on 26 June with an institutional event devoted to LGTBI+ historical memory, the assertion of rights and a celebration of diversity

Sitges City Council, in conjunction with AFGAL, Colors Sitges Link, Museus de Sitges and other organisations in town, is commemorating Pride Month with a programme of activities that showcases affective, sexual and gender diversity while also defending the rights and historical memory of the LGTBI+ community. The initiative aims to help to shed light on the LGTBI+ community's contributions to society, promote respect for diversity and enhance the collective commitment to combat any form of discrimination. The institutional event will be held on 26 June (although International Pride Day is 28 June) and will include an exhibition and a colloquium on LGTBI+ historical memory, the reading of a manifesto and a sardana in Plaça Indústria.

The councillor for Social Rights, Citizenship and Equality, Xavier Ripoll, says that ‘the Pride Month programme defends the LGTBI+ community’s importance in building an egalitarian, fair society. The activities being offered celebrate diversity while sharing the history and current status of the LGTBI+ community.

The programme includes initiatives that encourage people to reflect on new narratives, diversity and collective memory, while spaces of debate and awareness-raising open to all citizens have also been created.

Likewise, the fifteenth edition of Sitges Pride 2026, organised by the Associació de Festes Gais i Lesbianes (AFGAL), is complementing the commemoration with a social and cultural programme that promotes the inclusion, participation and visibility of the LGTBI+ community, reinforcing Sitges’s status as a benchmark in the defence of people’s diversity and rights.

International Pride Day defends the dignity of historically marginalised sexual orientations and gender identities, brings visibility to the struggle for the LGTBI+ community's rights and promotes respect for diversity. The commemoration reminds citizens of the need to continue to work towards a more inclusive, egalitarian, discrimination-free society.
