The Councillor’s Office for Culture at Sitges Town Council is scheduling guided tours again this year to the old nucleus, the goal being to bring citizens and visitors closer to the town’s archaeological heritage. The tours are on Saturdays, on 20 (in Catalan) and 27 (in Spanish) September, on 18 October (in Catalan), 8 November (in Spanish), 15 November (in Catalan) and 22 November (in Spanish).

The tours are free and open to everybody, with no need to book in advance.

The route starts from Plaça de l’Ajuntament at 5 pm and lasts around two hours. During the activity, participants will get a first-hand insight into the main points of the old nucleus where archaeological digs have been carried out. The tours also look at some of the most important pieces found over the 30 years plus of research at Puig de Sitges, thanks to archaeological follow-up of private and public works. Some of the most notable items include a fragment of the medieval wall from C/ Major and display cases with archaeological remains found in the foyer of the Town Hall.

Conducted by the archaeologist Joan García Targa, the tours offer an in-depth look at the ancient history of Sitges and a better understanding of what Puig was like in the Iberian and Roman period. Organised since 2017, this initiative has become a well-established opportunity to disseminate the historical and archaeological legacy of the municipality and highlight the value of heritage as a tool for knowledge and cultural cohesion.

With this programme, the Councillor’s Office for Culture reaffirms its commitment to continue working to disseminate heritage and the creation of meeting spaces where local residents and visitors can enjoy themselves, learn and connect with the history of Sitges.
