Facundo Bacardí, founder of one of the most well-known and famous rum brands in the world, was born in Sitges. Bacardí emigrated to the Cuban city of Santiago in 1830 where he created and sold the iconic drink with its emblematic bat logo. The modern-day Casa Bacardí in Sitges, housed within the former Mercat Vell (a modernist market hall built in 1890), allows visitors to take part in a guided tour through the brand’s history, with tasting included.

Centro de Interpretación de la Malvasia de Sitges
The winery which has conserved the legacy
Malvasia wine in Sitges is synonymous with Hospital Sant Joan Baptista winery, key in the preservation of this unique product specific to the town. In fact, the phylloxera pest, along with the appearance of Champagne in the last quarter of the 19th century, marked the beginning of a downward spiral for the Malvasia variety.
