The commemoration of International Dance Day begins in Sitges

The proposal Dance among books kicks off the Danza Sitges programme. The traditional open barre of classical dance, on the beach of San Sebastián, and demonstrations by the town's dance schools, are other outstanding activities of the commemoration

The Department of Culture, with the support of organisations, associations and centres, is coordinating the programme, under the name of Dansa Sitges, to commemorate International Dance Day. From this Thursday, 25th April until next Monday, 29th April, more than a dozen artistic proposals will be organised at different venues in Sitges with the aim of bringing this form of artistic expression closer to the public, supporting the dance community and promoting its work.

The programme kicked off today, Thursday, with the "Dansa entre Llibres" proposal, held at the Santiago Rusiñol library. This year, the adult group and the children of the Esplai de Dansa Casino Prado, directed by Sílvia Paretas, will perform their exhibitions among books. This initiative has been organised for the last three years to promote the link between dance and books.

Dansa Sitges will continue tomorrow, Friday 26th April, with other activities such as the traditional open barre of classical dance, at 6 p.m., which can once again be seen on Port de n'Alegre street (near Sant Sebastià beach) and which this year will be coordinated by Maria Llopis Gasulla.

Demonstrations by Sitges dance schools will be the protagonists on Saturday 27 April from 11 a.m., this year at the Sant Joan Baptista Hospital, coinciding with the 700 years of history of Sitges' oldest institution.

The programme also includes a classical dance gala with Cinderella, by the Centre de Dansa de Catalunya (CDC), which will be staged at the Prado Theatre on 28 April at 6 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased on the website culturasitges.cat/entrades.

The commemoration will close on Monday 29th, coinciding with International Dance Day, at the Santiago Rusiñol Library with a "Tastet de castanyoles" with a flamenco surprise by Maite Ferré's Prado de Sitges BALLA.

At 6:30 p.m. there will be a presentation of the book '60 classes de dansa clàssica del mestre Joan Magriñá', by Concepció Campamà. With the participation of the author, Esteve Molero, Sílvia Paretas and the performance of the dance group Casino Prado.
