Thirty-five tourist businesses and services in Sitges have now assessed themselves using the PROA platform (Tourist Accessibility Software), a free digital tool promoted by the Councillor’s Office for Tourism at Sitges Town Council, allowing facilities, establishments and tourist services in the municipality, both private and public, to analyse their level of accessibility.

The figure highlights the growing commitment by the local tourist sector to a more inclusive, accessible and competitive model of tourism. The Councillor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, notes that “accessibility is a key factor for guaranteeing quality tourism and strengthening the competitiveness of the destination. The growth of PROA demonstrates the sector’s involvement and the shared commitment to making Sitges a destination open to everybody”.

The PROA platform is designed for a wide range of tourist resources and services, such as hotels, apartments, camp-sites, tourist accommodation (HUT), restaurants, shops and transport services such as taxis, museums, cultural heritage, historical centres and tourist offices, as well as beaches, bathing areas, routes and indoor and outdoor activities. New categories linked to professional tourism have also been added recently, such as congress centres and trade fair venues, meeting places and singular spaces for events.

Establishments can analyse their level of accessibility in six areas: visual, aural, reduced mobility, wheelchairs, family needs and cognitive accessibility, and receive personalised recommendations to make progress in the ongoing improvement of user experience.

In parallel, the PROA software will be included in the new Sitges Anytime tourist website currently being developed, giving more visibility to the municipal resources that form part of the platform. The new website project is being developed with EU Next Generation funding as part of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan.

Municipal support for tourist resources

The Councillor’s Office for Tourism offers personalised support for all companies and organisations wishing to be included on the platform. The PROA system is part of the Turisme per a Tothom strategy and helps position Sitges as a leading destination in accessibility, inclusion and social responsibility.
