La Pregonera 2025 grows with the inclusion of Cicló <35 to promote young creators

The cultural agenda of Sitges includes around forty proposals such as theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, dance, and family shows, among others.

The Department of Culture presents La Pregonera 2025, the cultural agenda of Sitges, with more than forty proposals in performing arts, music, and exhibitions. The cultural offering in Sitges grows this year with the inclusion of Cicló <35, a new cycle with programming aimed at promoting creators under 35 years old, specifically designed to attract a young audience, which will take place at the Escorxador-Centre d’Arts Vives.

CICLÓ <35

A gastronomic performance, two concerts, a comedy monologue, and a dance show are the five performances launching Cicló <35, the new cycle of performing arts and music by creators up to 35 years old, presented in Sitges. The cycle was created with the goal of expanding the cultural offering in Sitges specifically aimed at the younger audience—although people of all ages are welcome—during the winter months and weekdays when there are fewer cultural proposals. The programmers of Cicló <35 are the Sitges-based Júlia Vidal and Maria Junyent, both professionally involved in curating, production, and cultural communication.

Among the reasons for the low attendance of young people at theaters is the economic factor, which has been addressed mainly by public policies offering discounts. However, there is also a lack of interest from young people, which can be explained by the low presence of young creators on stages and in the programming of cultural and artistic centers, as well as themes, disciplines, and languages that resonate with them. Cicló <35 aims to reverse this situation with the dual objective of attracting a younger audience than usual and promoting young creation.

The programming of Cicló <35 aims to be diverse in every sense (in disciplines, genres, themes...) with quality performing and musical proposals that have been programmed and recognized in relevant theaters and festivals within the professional circuit of Catalonia.

This year, the following performances will take place as part of this cycle at 8:00 PM at the Escorxador-Centre d’Arts Vives: the gastronomic performance Seitons Masdeu Hola i Adeu (Thursday, January 30), the concert of Lluc (Thursday, February 20), the comedy monologue by comedian and scriptwriter Març Llinàs, with an opening by Alba Segarra (Cicló Comedy - Thursday, March 13 at 8:00 PM), the concert by Ven’nus (the artistic name of singer-songwriter and producer Valèria N. Saurí - Thursday, March 27), and the dance performance ‘Navaja’ by the company laSADCUM (Thursday, April 3).

As for ticket prices, the general admission for all Cicló <35 performances is €10, and the cycle offers the same discounts as other performances programmed by the Sitges City Council: 50% discount for holders of the Carnet Jove, 15% discount with the Carnet de Biblioteques, 40% discount for holders of the Carnet Blau, and free entry for those with the Carnet Blau S.

MORE PERFORMING ARTS

La Pregonera 2025 offers a wide range of theatrical, musical, dance, and visual arts proposals. The new theater season kicks off with the first performance of Cicló <35, Seitons Masdeu Hola i Adeu (Thursday, January 30 at 8:00 PM / Escorxador), but in parallel to this cycle, other works will also be scheduled, such as the tragicomedy Els bons with Jordi Boixaderas and Ramon Madaula as the protagonists (Friday, March 28 at 8:00 PM / Teatre Prado). The two actors play two friends who meet on the stage of the Artistic Circle in their town. One of them plays Satan every Christmas at the Circle, but a firm sentence for corruption will prevent him from playing the devil, and his friend will replace him, despite struggling to be the villain. The play invites reflection on whether, in the end, "the good" are really so good.

Another highlight of the theater season will be the monologue Moltes mercès starring Mercè Comes (October 24 at 8:00 PM / Escorxador - Centre d'Arts Vives). With humor and vitality, the actress reviews her professional and personal life in this intimate and emotional performance, which also serves as a heartfelt thank you to all the people and experiences that have shaped her path.

Other productions include the comedy El tigre with actress Mercè Martínez and actor David Olivares, written and directed by Ramon Madaula (Friday, February 7 at 8:00 PM / Teatre Prado), and Sicalíptiques (Sunday, May 11 at 8:00 PM / Teatre Prado), a performance by Le Croupier, once again alongside Aina Sánchez and Carles Cors, with the accompaniment of Mont Plans. Directed by Xavier Albertí and written by Josep Maria Miró, the show offers a journey through the cuplet genre with a look full of humor and sensitivity.

Theater also invites debate with the play Biològica by Sílvia Navarro Perramon (April 4 at 8:00 PM / Teatre Prado), which reflects on family bonds and the decision to have children in the 19th century, and the performance Boja (February 14 at 8:00 PM / Escorxador - Centre d’Arts Vives) by Mariona Esplugues about the search for identity and the meaning of life when it seems that nothing makes sense. The actress and creator of the show portrays in the first person the experience she has lived over the last 16 years of consultations with various psychiatrists.

MUSIC

In the music section, the concert of Harlem Group Days (Friday, April 25 at 8:00 PM / Teatre Prado) is another highlight of La Pregonera 2025. Sitges musician Pinyu Martí presents the new formation "Janio Marti Project," a tribute to the first band Janio Marti (his father, also a musician and composer) had, the Harlem Group, which later became the "Janio Marti Orquestra i Cors," one of the most prestigious orchestras in the country during the 80s and 90s.

La Pregonera will also program a new edition of Jazz Antic Sitges (from April 9 to 13), Barraques Sitges (from August 14 to 16), and the Imprescindibles cycle within the Festival Terramar (from July 25 to August 9), promoting local talent with performances of music and dance by artists from Sitges and the surrounding Garraf region.

Another classic event in July and August is Sitgestiu, an event organized by the Sitges Museums that invites people to discover Sitges' rich heritage in a different and enriching way through unique activities such as Pocket Opera, Jazz al Cau, castanet auditions, guided tours, family workshops, and cinema, among others. All proposals are aimed at both local and nearby audiences as well as tourists. The Sitgestiu program also includes the classical music cycle at Racó de la Calma, organized by the Sitges City Council, featuring concerts by winners of the Josep Mirabent Magrans competition.

FAMILY PROGRAMMING

In the family productions section, Teatre Prado will host El Monstre de colors (Sunday, November 16 at 12:00 PM), a puppet show that combines music and visual poetry to help children and adults express emotions. This performance is a theatrical adaptation of the book El monstre de colors by Annal Llenas, which has sold over 300,000 copies and has been translated into 16 languages.

Other titles include Rrrrrr. Història d’una eruga (Sunday, April 27 at 12:00 PM / Teatre Prado), a dance and puppet performance representing the metamorphosis of a butterfly, and Versus. De cap al circ (Sunday, June 15 at 6:00 PM in the Prado gardens), a show full of surprises where music and juggling take center stage.

DANCE

Once again, Sitges will commemorate International Dance Day (April 29) with a series of activities dedicated to this discipline. The program will combine talent and performances ranging from classical dance to contemporary proposals. Professional and amateur dancers will gather at Carrer Port de n’Alegre (near Sant Sebastià beach) to share the traditional open bar. There will also be exhibitions from the town's dance schools, reinterpretations of traditional dances, and more.

Dance will also be present within Cicló <35 with the performance Navaja and with the show El Trencanous, performed by the Centre de Dansa de Catalunya (Sunday, December 14 at 12:00 PM / Teatre Prado). This production is a tribute to the magic of Christmas and the power of dreams.

EXHIBITIONS

Exhibitions are one of the core components of La Pregonera. The Sitges Museums organize exhibits throughout the year that complement the town's cultural offering. Until March, you can visit the exhibition dedicated to L'Amic de les arts (1926-1929) at the Museu de Maricel, the first avant-garde magazine in Catalonia.

This year, the Sitges Museums will also program the exhibition Artur Carbonell: From Magical Realism to the Avant-Garde (November 7 to March 8), dedicated to this Sitges painter, playwright, and scenographer, and The Exaltation of Drawing (Manel Puig collection – Vaixells Room of Palau de Maricel from May 16 to October 19), showcasing works created from the Renaissance to the present by Italian, French, English, and other international artists.

Another notable exhibition will be Ahir i Avui. 100 Years of Graphic Humor, curated by the Gin Foundation, which will be installed from May 17 to July 20 at the Miramar-Centre Cultural. The exhibit will highlight how satirical themes published in newspapers, magazines, and books from the last century, such as wars, corruption, ideological polarization, traffic, nouveau riche, climate, and fashion, remain relevant over time.

The Department of Culture is organizing three exhibitions this year as part of a public competition at the Miramar-Centre Cultural. The selected projects are:

  • Viure per morir, morir per viure by photographer Clàudia Sauret Verdejo (June 7 to July 27)
  • Nou món by painter Isidre Marcet, and Ara pau by the Visual and Plastic Artists Collective for a Culture of Peace, Arapau (August 2 to September 21)
  • Els colors de la natura by Lola Ballbé (March 29 to May 11).

This year, the program is complemented by the 8th edition of Sitges Reciclart, the recycling and responsible art festival (August 2 to September 21 at Miramar-Centre Cultural), the exhibition of finalists from the Sanvisens Painting and Pere Jou Sculpture competitions, and the exhibitions Vent de fora by sculptor Susana Botana and Família by painter Leonor Solans, winners of last year’s artistic contests.

MORE EVENTS AND POPULAR CULTURE

In parallel, La Pregonera is complemented by the festive calendar linked to popular culture, such as the Festa Major of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla, Carnival, Corpus, and other events like the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, the Dona-Art en Femení Festival, and the Festa de la Poesia, which this year will move to the fall for its 18th edition.
